President Alan Meade and Vice President Sarah Suddarth, both of the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association, will discuss the role that a physical therapist plays in addressing the opioid epidemic. The opioid epidemic and physical therapy are closely related. The rise of opioid use and abuse has reached an all-time high, causing more deaths than car accidents in recent years. The causes of this problem are multifactorial. When addressing this issue, it is important to think about how pain perception, societal influences, and “Big Pharma” may have contributed to the epidemic. Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are in a unique position to aid in combating this issue.

However, many organizations struggle with the ability to stay nimble to respond to rapid market changes because of a variety of factors. This session explores three common barriers to agility, provides tools to overcome these barriers, and describes best practices in building adaptability in strategic initiatives.
